PHP is the most used web development language and is used by more than 80% of the websites over the internet. It's developed in 1994 in C Language and meanwhile, there are so many developments and improvements were taken place. Now, we've different frameworks of PHP out there which are really powerful and secure to develop a site.
As PHP has been out there for a very long time, many big names use this for their developments. Some of them are following.

Facebook consists of applications written in many languages, including PHP and many others. Facebook is using PHP but it has built a compiler for it so it can be compiled into native code(C++).
Facebook doesn’t use PHP for its core system, they use C++ heavily on the back end system. Apparently, Facebook has many features built in PHP. Actually, it’s not the real PHP, Facebook has written a customized version of PHP that is HipHop's HPHP'c which help to translate PHP code into C++ which shows that Facebook not using PHP, but by still using PHP.

Wikipedia created in January 2001. Initially, it used a wiki software called UseModWiki, which has been developed in Perl. In 2001, it became clear that Wikipedia's popularity is growing and that it needs some new features. For example, UseModWiki couldn't add spaces in the words, so you had to write "CodeRanks" rather than "Code Ranks". also, it's performance is not much good. So Magnus Manske(Wikipedia writer and programmer as well), decided to write it himself.
Yahoo
Yahoo is an Internet portal that includes a search engine and a directory of websites organized in a hierarchy of topic categories. It also provides an email client named as Yahoo Mail. It has used PHP in its old version of yahoo mail.
MailChimp
MailChimp is a digital marketing automation service. It includes PHP in its technology stack.
Tumblr
Tumblr is the most popular microblogging websites. Its a collection of millions of user-generated personal websites. Tumblr uses PHP in its technology stack.
Slack
Slack is used for team members communication. The technology stack behind Slack includes PHP as well.
Dailymotion
Dailymotion is a video sharing website. The website provides the feature of monetization through which users can earn money. The technology stack behind Dailymotion includes PHP.
Etsy
Etsy is a collection of online shops where you can purchase different products. It uses PHP as it's server-side language.
